CodeSpaces pricing model (First Draft) 11
As we get closer to our first BETA, we are also starting to get a clearer picture of the pricing model we wish to implement for CodeSpaces.
Basically we have come up with the following pricing model for small busesiness (and Micro ISVs).
Single User
1 Project, 2 subversion repositories, Wiki, Work Items, Project Management, Daily Backups and 100mb disk space.
FREE
Micro ISV (up to 2 users.)
Unlimited Projects, Unlimited Subversion Repositories (WITH SSL), Wiki, Work Items, Project Management, Daily Backups and 500mb of Disk space.
$10 (USD) per month.
Small Business (up to 5 users.)
Unlimited Projects, Unlimited Subversion Repositories (WITH SSL), Wiki, Work Items, Project Management, Daily Backups and 1gb of Disk space.
$20 (USD) per month.
Now these figures are not set in stone and your comments will no doubt help in our final decision, so please let us know your thoughts?

Im starting a new Rails Project this week and would love to get onboard the beta. Id be concerned about free users distracting from the performance of paid users though. If you are committed to a free account, Id raise the $10 level to 1gb, and the $20 to 2gb atleast and also allow us to append documents to the project.
Also, how did you do that interface in Rails? I know many controls for asp.net that can do that, but how in rails?
Thanks!
Hi Phillip,
Thanks for you comment I see your point.
As for the interface, I used the http://extjs.com components and a bit of CSS magic ;-)
Nice, thanks for the link.
Floyd,
I’m looking forward to the beta. I think that offering a free account for one user is in keeping with other products like FogBugz (on Demand) and Lighthouse. I’m anxious to see how your app stacks up against both of these, especially the latter.
Cheers.
I’m also anxious to see how it stacks up ;-)
Cheers
Floyd
How does it make sense to have 1 project but 2 repositories?
I prefer to have only one repository but multiple projects. Does codespaces support that configuration?
BTW, Could you tell me approximately how long did you take (or thinking that it would take) to create the first release version codespaces? It sure looks very interesting.
JD
Codespaces handles many repositories to many projects, and i will update the price plan to reflect this soon.
I actually have several repositories for each of my project so i guess it’s just a case of “we are all different”.
Codespaces has been a vision of mine for about 12 months, as for how long it took to build, well I’m not exactly sure but it definatly took longer than i expected ;-)
Thanks Floyd for the answer. So I am guessing that you took less than 12 months to develop the application. Is that right?
Sorry, yes i would say it tool around 3 months to develop, but that is not “full time” as i have another business (www.componentworkshop.com) that i run as well as some consulting commitments.
What i would say is that building web applications in Ruby on Rails is much more productive that in asp.net whcih is what i used to use…
Only 3 months and that too part time? That’s amazing considering the ground you have already covered [Based on your screenshots]. Any possibility about getting an early invite?
Thanks,
JD, you will have access by Monday ;-)
I can’t work any faster than that I’m afraid!!!!
Cheers
