More Disk space all round. 2

Posted by Floyd Price Wed, 01 Sep 2010 11:01:45 GMT

As of today we have Doubled the disk space on all our plans with the exception of the Mini plan which now has 4x the amount of disk space.

This is a reflection on the maturity of our infrastructure that we can now provide more resources to you at no extra cost, while maintaining our commitment to security and uptime.

The plans now look like this :

  • Mini : 1GB
  • MicroISV : 2GB
  • Small Team : 4GB
  • Large Team : 6GB
  • Enterprise : 20GB

Enjoy the extra space!

Q&A Site for CodeSpaces.com

Posted by Floyd Price Thu, 19 Aug 2010 21:27:33 GMT

We have set up a simple Questions and Answers site that will (ultimately) replace for Code Spaces forums.

Its inspired by StackOverflow and is powered by the wonderful open source platform Shapado (http://gitorious.org/shapado).

Why?

We are trying to become more vocal and active in the development community and we think a site like this will not only serve to help our customers but also to reach out to the development community at large, especially Git and Subversion users.

I hope you will sign up and help us make this a great resource.

Git Support!

Posted by Floyd Price Thu, 19 Aug 2010 11:41:25 GMT

Without any fireworks or drum rolls we rolled out our Git Support last night, and the early response has been amazing.

We are going to be creating some content over the coming days and weeks to provide as mush documentation and help for Git (and Code Spaces), but in the mean time please contact us if you have any questions?

As always all Plans have unlimited Git Repositories so "fill your boots"

You look different... Have you had work done?

Posted by Floyd Price Mon, 02 Aug 2010 22:45:42 GMT

Hey Guys!

Its been an amazingly busy few weeks here and while things are not showing any signs of slowing down, I thought id catch 5 minutes (and my breath) to tell you what's been going on and what's coming up next.

2 Weekends ago! (25th July 2010)

We did a major UI update which included an upgrade from ExtJS 1.1 to ExtJS 3.2.1 and while we didn't add any new features we got a whole lot for FREE. (I will talk about these in a minute).

1 Weekend ago! (1st August 2010)

We deployed a new version of the application which included a whole new Admin section, some nice updates to the Work Items section and some new sections in the Admin Area, with a sneaky "Coming Soon" tag! (Again I will talk about all this in a minute).

Next Weekend (8th Aug 2010)

We have been working on Granular SVN permissions for a really long time and have been really close for just as long. But as of today we are passing 100% of the required tests for this to work in production, so as of next weekend you will be able to set granular permissions to all your SVN repositories (if you choose to), you can do all the old favourites, Read, Read/Write, None...

A few weekends from now (TBD)

Git repositories! Yes your not seeing things! the old farts here at Code Spaces are finally going to support GIT! We think you will like the way we have implemented it, obviously we are not going for the same approach taken by people like GitHub (I love those guys!) as we are more focused on private repos and private projects, however If your a fan of Git (and who isn't these days) you will be able to appreciate it at Code Spaces too real soon.

So whats new then?

So as i mentioned we have already deployed a whole load of new stuff, and many of you have already commented (Thanks Guys!) on a lot of it. Here is a brief overview of the changes:

Refined UI - The UI is generally tidier and easier on the eye (which is nice).

Grids - All the Grids (WorkItems, SourceCode, Admin, etc..) now support saving of state, so if you move columns around, hide/show columns or even resize columns you setting are now saved (automatically) so next time you visit that page, its as you left it.

Work Items - So many little things have changed in Work Items, the layout is slightly different with a new search window on the left which can be shown/hidden by toggling the Search button and pinned/unpinned using the window pin.

The new Work Item screen has more fields, more of the ones you need when creating a new work item funnily enough!

The edit work item screen now takes you right in to the edit mode, so you don't need to scroll across to edit, and all the tabs (comments, documents, etc) are on the same screen, which makes a lot more sense.

We have added more columns to the grid, however not all of them are visible by default, have a play with the grid to set it just how you like it.

Email notifications are now working in a much more reliable way, Email is a technology that we really hate a Code Spaces but its a necessary evil given that so many of you like being notified about stuff... Well we have worked very hard to get this working better for you guys and i'm told (thanks again guys!) that we have nailed it this time (yes i know, about time too).

Admin - The admin section is so different its not really worth talking about the individual changes, but here are a few that you will like:

Layout is much better and fits with the rest of the application.

You can hide specific features from your users if your not using them (at project level), for instance, if you have a project that is just for PM and has no need for Source Code or Forums, you can switch those feature off in the project settings page.

Sneak Peak at GIT support, yeah we left in some signs of the work we are doing to support GIT in Code Spaces, we will let you all know when these areas become active, but I'll give a Wonderful, once in a lifetime prize to the person who spots them first.

Dashboards - You can move the dashboard widgets around, and resize them as you like, this is automatically saved so you can get it looking just right for you. This also applies for the account dashboard. We will in the coming weeks be pushing out more widgets for these screens so you can get more information right where you want it.

Wiki - Wiki pages are now versioned, and you can select previous versions form the wiki page.

Well I think you have had enough for one post, but as you can see we are really working hard on Code Spaces and plan on doing so many great things in the coming weeks and months.

CodeSpaces v2.8 - New release 2

Posted by Floyd Price Sun, 18 Jul 2010 11:55:05 GMT

We deployed an update to the Code Spaces system today, we internally call this version v2.8 so why don't you ;-)

The update contains a number of bug fixes (particularly to work items), an Account Dashboard and some infrastructure updates to support our Road Map (I will blog about this next).

Account Dashboard

If you have more than one active project in Code Spaces it can become tiresome having to change in to a new project every time you want to check on a Work Item or Subversion Commit, especially if your one of the many IT Consultancies that use Code Spaces and have upwards of 20 projects active.

Account Dashboard

The answer to this problem is the Account Dashboard, located at the top right (see Screen Shot) clicking on the link will take you to a new screen, you guessed it, the "Account Dashboard" screen.

Here you can see a higher level view of your data which includes a few different types of Work Item view and an SVN Commit view, but instead of being concentrated on a particular project the view is across all projects that you have access to.

As well as letting you see various aspects of your Code Spaces account across all projects the Account Dashboard allows for convenient navigation to workitems, commits, etc. Simply click on a revision number or a Work Item and the dashboard will navigate you directly to the actual data selecting the correct Project or repository for you.

Bugs

We have implemented a number of bug fixes, most notable of these are:

  • Work Item Parent - The work item parent functionality would often loose the reference to the parent so editing a work item would sometimes result in the parent being lost. This is a problem if you use the planning tab and like to create work item dependancies - This is now fixed.

  • Repository Import - The Subversion repository import routine would fail on large (> 50MB) repositories - This is now fixed.

Infrastructure

infrastructure.png

To support our Road Map we needed to make some pretty substantial changes to the underlying Code Spaces infrastructure.

we decided that doing the changes before we needed them would give us a better chance of getting it right, as such the custom authentication module (mod_cs_svn_auth) we written for the Subversion servers has been updated as well as a new Authorization module (mod_cs_authz_svn) which will allow us to hook up Per Directory repository permissions in a future release.

I will be writing about the Code Spaces roadmap in my next blog article, so please come back soon.

Removing the Flash Charts from Code Spaces 4

Posted by Floyd Price Tue, 06 Jul 2010 21:17:30 GMT

Now that everyone is using there iPad to manage their Code Spaces account we are getting a lot of requests to remove the Flash content from the Dashboard and Planning tabs.

We have identified a good charting package that is all Javascript and renders perfectly on all major browsers, yep Internet Explorer too!

The package we are going to use, is HighCharts and from our initial testing and some internal applications I think you are all going to appreciate the upgrade, even if you aren't using an iPad ;-)

The only other thing that remains is the Gantt chart which we might end up writing ourselves, unless any Javascript Gantt component vendors are out there...

Code Spaces Update coming this Sunday (2010-07-11)

Posted by Floyd Price Tue, 06 Jul 2010 09:48:27 GMT

We will be applying a number of updates to the Code Spaces applications this coming weekend, Our plan is to keep the Subversion Cluster up but to take down the Code Spaces App servers for about 1 hour from 10:00 GMT to 11:00 GMT.

The update will include a number of bug fixes as well as a new account dashboard allowing users with many projects to get a high level overview of the entire system, for example All work items.

We are also updating some of the infrastructure.

If you have any questions about this please Contact Us.

Visual Studio Integration

Posted by Floyd Price Mon, 05 Jul 2010 09:02:49 GMT

We are about to take our new Visual Studio Integration module in to BETA, the project will allow you to use all the SVN features from Visual Studio as well as integration with the Code Spaces issue tracking system.

The workflow will be familiar to Visual Studio developers who have touched Team Foundation Server.

If you are at all interested in this drop us a mail to get on the BETA list.
